The Luxury Of Hopelessness

I had a very busy day. I’m sure you understand--food to buy and cook, laundry to clean, clients to see, money to earn. So when I received two emails each from Amnesty International and the International Rescue Committee imploring me to contact my senators and urge them to support sending UN peacekeeping forces to Darfur, rather than call I felt annoyed, put out, guilted.

And then I thought for a moment. Here are millions of people suffering unspeakable horrors and this is a cause I’ve supported and spoken publicly about. How can I be annoyed? What’s really going on here?

I realized that my annoyance was a cover up. What I really felt was helpless and hopeless. For all the spotlighting of this genocide, for all the petitions signed by hundreds of thousands, for all the rallies, the situation in Darfur has gotten worse, not better. What I was really thinking was, “What difference will two more phone calls make, especially to senators who probably already support increasing aid to the Darfur region?”

Then I realized what a luxury it was for me to feel helpless and hopeless while millions of men, women, and children are being tortured, raped, starved, and murdered. How dare I do nothing because I choose to believe that I can’t do enough?

I came to my senses and understood that I needed to do something, not just for the people in Darfur, but for myself. First, I got my priorities straight and called my senators. And then I emailed them for good measure. I spent part of the rest of the day forgiving myself for wallowing in hopelessness. At the end of the day, I wasn't yet done forgiving myself. That may take awhile.

So how are you spending your busy day?

Finding The Time To Meditate Regularly

We always seem to be in a rush nowadays. So how can you find the time to spare to meditate? There are so many other things competing for our time that we always seem to be in a rush. Food and coffee on the go, speaking on the cell phone while doing other things, typing away at the computer whilst on the phone to a work colleague.

So how on earth can we devote even 15 or 20 minutes a day to simply meditating?
Initially it may seem an uphill struggle. But you find a few minutes every day to brush your teeth and a meditation session is just as essential for your overall health.

Maybe getting up a few minutes earlier would work for you? Or, if you're an evening person, the last few minutes before you go to sleep.  A lot of people find this to be one of the best times to meditate as it puts them into a calm, relaxed state. Perfect for a good night's sleep.

If you can't devote the time every day to meditation, then consider becoming a weekend meditator. Oftentimes, Saturdays and Sundays are not quite as hectic as the rest of the week. So you may be able to regularly spend time on a meditation session. You'll still get a benefit from these sessions.

There are also times during the day that you can re-work to make the time to meditate.
If you watch the news, skip it! The news will still happen and if something important crops up, someone will tell you about it. This works well for me - I catch up on the news weekly and have yet to suffer withdrawal symptoms from my previous daily dose of news.

If you have a television recorder, use it to skip the adverts. That will free up 15 minutes or more per hour of television you watch.

Meditation For Memory

Meditation helps the body relax. Through concentration and breathing, stress can be released and this allows a person to be more receptive and open. Meditation can be beneficial to memory too. If a person is relaxed their memory will improve.

If there have been times when you forgot something like a birthday, you will recall the guilt that followed. Most likely you were already in stress. This guilt in turn feed the cycle of forgetfulness by turning into anxiety which made you forget other things and so on.

Using meditation techniques you can open up the mind and allow memory function to improve. You will find yourself being able to recall things like phone numbers, dates, and names without having to refer to books can calendars.

Meditation can be simple enough to perform on a daily basis. Use meditation in combination with a program of developing memory to help you boost your memory. You want to find a place that is quiet. You can use things such as candles or essential oils to get into the mood and help your relax. In fact, some essential oils can be beneficial for the memory.

There are classes offered now in gyms or natural health care facilities all over the country. You can find one with an emphasis on boosting the memory. If you have a regular routine of meditation, it has the added benefit of improving your self esteem. If you know you are on target memory wise, you will feel good about yourself.

If you don’t want to join a class, there are plenty of manuals, books and other equipment that can help you get started. Some of these suggest breathing exercises to go with certain poses. If your mind is calm and relaxed it allows you to maintain a good memory.

Time Invested Wisely = Your Dreams

This past Friday I was asked to speak with a person, who just signed into a home-based networking business -- which I know is one of the most effective entrepreneurial methods for an average person to achieve true financial success. My entire conversation/coaching session with this individual was based on the simple theme of working your plan and committing long-term with no thought of ever quitting until the achievement of your ultimate outcome.

What is the #1 point that you should stress to someone who decides to become your fellow teammate and business partner? I would definitely say that it is erasing the following words from your vocabulary: I DO NOT HAVE THE TIME. Everyone has the same 24 hours in a day! Over the next 7 days, try keeping a detailed log of where you invest your time.

Time is the universal currency, which God blesses everyone with. However, it is those who choose to invest time wisely that succeed. Every winner in life could have easily said, “Well you know it sounds great, but I do not have the time to do anything.” You need to look deep into your spirit and realize that time is an incredible gift and you need to cherish the gift by investing it very effectively.

The overall attitude of most people these days is that everything is so hard for them but easier for everyone else. There is a very thin line between winning and losing, and it all begins with setting your mind to the correct channel - channel W for winning -- no matter whatever anyone else says or thinks. I know you can achieve all of your dreams in life if you just erase from your vocabulary, “I do not have the time.”

Take a minute right now and look at where you sow your time. Wherever you sow your time will ultimately determine your future harvest. Invest (sow) it wisely and achieve (reap) your Dreams! Be conscious of saying or hearing -"I do not have the time."
